ITS-SIDS

Presenter: Brenda Drake, CCR&R Coordinator, TWPFC
January 25, 2024 ~ 6pm-8pm – Washington County Health Department
Cost: $5 – 2 CHC’s

This required training explains all the parts of North Carolina’s SIDS Law.  Participants will review information about when and how to use the approved waivers, how to best place a baby in bed to sleep, and other “Best Practices” recommendations.  During the workshop, participants will get the needed information to create a Safe Sleep Policy, updated research about SIDS, and local health and safety resources.  Participants also will be walked through how to do an unresponsive infant drill and the reason for doing them regularly.

Teaching Strategies for Children Diagnosed with Autism

Presenter: Debbie Cooper, Child Care Education Services
February 13, 2024 ~ 6pm-8pm  ~ Washington County Health Department
Cost: $15 – 2 CHC’s

This training will introduce participants to the concept of first person language when interacting with children with special needs.  A brief explanation of Rosa’s Law will be provided.  Participants will also learn the components of Universal Design and how to structure the physical classroom to be more accommodating to all children and how to instruct children in a more universal manner that is inclusive of all children.  Participants will get an overview of autistic spectrum disorder, its causes, characterisitics, and specific strategies teachers can take to teach positivity interact with children in the classroom who have been diagnosed with autisim.

Implementing Postive Classroom Discipline(Infant/Toddler)

February 20 and 21, 2024 ~ 6pm-8:30 pm  ~ Washington County Health Department
Cost: $15 – 2 CHC’s.  This is a 2-day training

How do you implement an effective classroom discipline policy for infants and toddlers that allow children to grow, develop and foster a positive learning environment? This training will introduce participants to several different classroom management techniques tht can allow them to institute a classroom discipline polity that works.  Having solid classroom discipline policy is vital for every classroom and allows the children to learn and grow within appropriate boundaries.  Participants will leave this training with ample resources to implement an effective discipline approach designed for yound children (birth to two)

Go NapSACC

Presenter:  Brenda Drake, CCR&R Coordinator, TWPFC
March 12, 2024 ~ 6:00pm-8pm – (Virtual)
Cost: $5 – 2 CHC’s

Participants will experience an overview of the Go NAPSACC site, including its benefits and how it can improve nutrition and physical activity practices. Participants will learn how children’s eating and physical activity influence their overall development, as well as how to identify everyday opportunities in child care to support healthy habits and development. Child care programs in attendance will learn how to log in to their Go NAPSACC account, how to identify the 5 steps and the tools that align with each, and how to set milestones to stay on track.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

April 17, 2024 ~ 6pm-8:30pm – Washington County Health Department
Cost: $5 – 2.5 CHC’s

Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) in Child Care Training provides early educators with information and tools to prepare for many types of emergencies. The EPR in Child Care Training addresses NC Child Care Rules on emergencies preparedness, current best practice recommendations and guidance on completing the online EPR Plan.
